A couple of books on my nightstand this week, my Duncan Phyfe nightstand to be exact - a great find some years ago - a diamond in the rough, covered in three (3) layers of awful paint! I picked it up at an estate sale for $10 which I found out later was an incredible deal, near mint condition and still had the original metal claw feet. A local antiques dealer offered me $150 about 8 years ago for it....anyhow I digress....on to the books.
I just started reading The Secret so I don't really have a full review on it as yet. It is proving to be a very interesting book so far and for anyone not in the know, it's based on 'The Law of Attraction'. I've come across many artists who are reading it or have read it - if you have, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it :)
However, I have read through or rather floated through (the photography is gorgeous in this book, makes for a dreamy read for sure!) Where Women Create so I can tell you a little bit about it. If you're looking for a how-to book - this isn't for you. If you want to be inspired or see how other artists utilize their studios to suit the mediums they work in - then it most definitely delivers!! Great reference for beautiful display ideas if your workspace is also a retail space too and super pics of how they organize & store all their stuff in creative and interesting ways. Each artist also personalized their feature with a favorite quote and tip.
All in all I would have to say that this book has great 'bones' (photos) but I found myself wishing they had more meat on them :) However, if you're into creative eye candy - you'll be more than satisfied with it!

Hi Laura,
Thanks so much for the great reviews on the books...I was actually wondering about 'Where Women Create'...I saw the documentary on 'The Secret.' I definitely believe in the law of attraction, and putting our intentions out into the Universe in order to bring our desires into our lives. I thought the documentary focused too much on material things at first...money, property, etc...but then it changed, showing that money cannot necessarily bring happiness. My friend Sheri Gaynor is actually writing an art-based book on this very subject....there are a group of artists who have agreed to participate....I am honored to be one of them....the process of what I was asked to do was life-changing and I cannot wait to read about what happened to other artists. I think you will be intrigued too...the book will be published by North Light books...probably not for a year or so.

Laura...
I've just spent the last 20 minutes with a fresh cuppa Sunday coffee enjoying your beautiful work and words!
A book you might want to add to your nightstand is Jill Badonsky's Nine Modern Day Muses and a Bodyguard...check out the reviews on Amazon.
Best to you on your remodeling project! Being in the design biz for 25+ years; I know of what you are going through...just remember 6 months from now, any pain and anguish will be but a distant memory (or so one hopes!)
Thanks too for the lovely comment you left on MUSEologies. Always a real heart-warmer to read words like yours!
Cheers to you and kudos on your exceptional work!
