'Floral Cubes' - carbon paper ink, color pencil on isometric graph paper
EDIT: Okay so I did another one cause I really wanted to see it in a warmer palette and with more drawing than cubes. Also for Tanya who wanted to see more florals :)
"Geeky" for patterns, color and design in this construction of pure geometry and abstract form. This appealed to my true design geek sense of order, interaction of color and form! However, it was a test in patience as a bit of planning had to take place before the actual color work began ( I like to skip preliminaries and dive right in!)
design details: 6 colors paired in 2's, alternating rows diagonally, cube's pattern color determined by the color of the cube to its' left
I initially had more in mind for the floral drawing in the first one below, but scaled it down a bit when I contemplated the time involved. However, it was fun and almost zen-like working on this so I decided to do another one in an alternate color palette and with a bolder, large- scale drawing as shown.
More 'geeky'-ness here: how stuff works

Tanya
Very intresting pieces, great work.
Really Fabulous! I love both but especially the top one! Exceptional idea and beautifully executed!!!
Wow Laura this is so lovely and must have taken quite a bit of patience to do! Am self-studying ornamentation and decorative designs at the moment and this is superb. Gorgeously geeky!
OH the FLORALS!!!! ok that is a weeeee bit geeky if you counted those squares!!!!!! id go insane with the tediousness of it all..it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt you reign in all things beautiful...you have the best of both worlds the arteest in you and the discipline it takes to make something beautiful...would make a fabulous wrapping paper....
Hi Laura! Tanya has a great idea--this would be wonderful wrapping paper! Too tedious for me right now, but I can see "getting into the zone" and working on this, if only my time wasn't so pressing!
You do such fabulous work, Laura!
Thanks all!! Tony - my hubby said the same thing and I was like "what's that?!" And yes it was definitely 'geeky' to do another one right away, altho the second one didn't take as long as the first one :) I've got more in the works too - geeks rule!
And me too Mariana! I collect vintage design books, I could pour over them forever! Tanya and Kathleen thanks for your advice on the wrapping paper, I did think of that but with your input I'm looking into wrapping paper design work. You guys are the best, thanks for your support!
yowzer..."design details" tells a lot about your inherent geekiness...hat's off to you for clever concept and stunning illo!
Oh my - what patience you must have! I really like the floral one and agree with steve, its really cool.
