Photoshop: Painting / Artwords #62 "Curl"

July 28, 2007 EDIT: My experimenting with Photoshop painting continues - more practice with skin tones and shading. Even though I haven't used my airbrush in awhile I'm finding it similar to that as far as building up layers goes, also I'm finally getting some real use out of my wacom tablet pen :) I want to work on the eyes more and start in on the hair next so will see if I can find any tutorials out there on that. Stay tuned....

mixed media 9x12, pen, photoshop

A quick line sketch in pen, then scanned into photoshop to add some color, everything but the dress and curls. I'm such an amateur and so very new to PS as far as creating art with it so recently starting scanning in sketches and experimenting. I also have Illustrator too but there's so much to learn, I'm thinking about taking some classes to really get into it but not sure I want my art to go that route just yet :)

However, I do know that I really like how easy it is to just UNDO something and change brushes and paints so easily. Plus I love how digital art has no mess to clean up and that I can just save what's up on the screen when 'life' calls!! :)

Beautiful job, Laura! I love how soft her skin is, and the blush is just right! I don't know how to do that in photoshop. Maybe some day I'll learn . . .

Aww, thanks Kathleen - I wasn't sure about posting it as it feels amateurish (sp?) to me with all the beautiful digital artwork 'out there'. I feel comfortable posting it here in my little corner of the world tho :) and yes you should try it!!! It's fun and fairly easy - I built it up in layers, let me know it you want some tips. There's lot's of free tutorials out there too - Google it and see what you get!

Thanks for the encouragement Laura. Some day soon I hope to do a simple line drawing and see about coloring it in photoshop. I'll let you know how it goes, but don't holg your breath! :~)

I have photoshop envy as well! I would love to find some time to spend on this! It would probably just start another crazy obsession, and I would spend more time at the computer. I love your results though!

Thanks Lindsay and nice to see you! And you know I probably could have painted or pastelled (sp?) it faster the fine art way lol, but it's another medium to enhance my linework so I'm keeping an open mind. Aaahhh the learning curve - such a wide angle :)
