'surfer girl' 10x10, gallery wrapped canvas, oil

Packing up things this weekend as we're moving in a few weeks and decided to dig out some oil paints and revisit/rescue an abandoned canvas I found in a box. I tried these oils out when I first got them but never put them to canvas. They're Winsor & Newton water-soluable oils and a great choice for anyone with a home studio.

I'm not crazy about this piece....yet. Not sure what it needs [from me] but I do know that I love working with these oils. The clean-up is easy, they're low odor and you can keep moving a piece around until it sets, which varies depending on your humidity level as the paints cure thru oxidation.

Will post this piece again when it's finished -- stay tuned for updates on my new Etsy shop!! :)

Inspire Me Thursday - 'Push' and News!

10 x 10 x 1.5 , acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas, 'Time to Heal'

Finished, registered and ready to go - yay! So happy that I commited to this last week and pushed myself to finish it in such a short time. I'm not a huge fan of deadlines, but sometimes it's what I need to accomplish what I set out to do.

Now, I just need to add some hanging hardware to the back and drop it off for the Spring Juried Art show happening this Friday. Also I just found out that I'm going to be one of the featured artists at this particular gallery, the Firehouse (it was a real working firehouse at one time and converted into a gallery) later on this year in September! Excited about this next step... but I know that there is much to do between now and then.

Have a wonderfully creative week!

More on my latest piece...

12 x 12 gallery wrapped canvas, acrylics (title when complete)

Another peek at progress on my latest piece. I've finished shading her hair and worked in the raven....more details needed on the feathers and claw(s). This piece was actually inspired by a journal entry I had done awhile back for Inspire Me Thursday's prompt "healing" - do you remember this?

Now back to work and on to the sunflower, will be toning it down with lighter shades of yellow/gold, detailing the center and adding in the stalk & leaves - stay tuned for the finished piece...

Work in progress....

12x 12 gallery wrapped canvas, acrylics (title when completed)

Where has the time gotten to??? Just a quick post to say hello and give you a sneak peek at the latest piece on my work table. I started in on my focal point and did a quick underpainting for the rest of the canvas. I haven't had much time to spend on this, but I'm working at getting it finished this week and then enter it into a local juried art show coming up very soon....

Take care y'all and remember that life is precious. Don't wait another minute to hug those you love and tell them how much they mean to you :>

WIP on Canvas - Update

11x14, canvas board

I can't believe it's February already - where did January go??! I so enjoyed that month of journaling with everyone through Misty Mawn's Jan. Art Journalers group even though I didn't manage to get the whole month in. It jumpstarted my creativity in so many ways -THANK YOU Misty from the bottom of my heart!

I did journal a bit today but it was more of a sketch & some notes in my moleskine so I decided to explore it further on the canvas panel above. This is a bit larger than what I'm used to working on but I made fairly good progress. I had to stop working when the beautiful daylight that I love to work with started to fade. I have a few ideas where I would like this piece to go - I'd like to keep the blue tones, and keep it moody/ introspective but also with some symbolism. However, that could change...

How about you? Does your work end up being exactly as you envisioned it? Maybe it starts out your way and then your muse steps in to finish up? Please feel free to share your thoughts and process, I'd love to know!

Until tomorrow.....
